Comparison Pyramid
Chart explanation:
An interactive visualization that shows the distribution of ages across a population divided down the
center between men+ and women+ members of the population.
The colours on the age pyramid identify the selected geographies; the grey bars depict geography 1, and the
purples lines depict geography 2.
The left side of the chart displays the men+ population, while the right side of the chart displays the
women+ population.
There are two accompanying charts that display the count and the proportion, as well as the median age and
the average age.
Chart functionality:
To compare geographies, choose between a selection of Canada, province or territory, census metropolitan
areas, census agglomerations and census subdivisions, through the dropdown menus labelled “Geography 1” or
Geography 2”.
Hover over a specific age to view the counts and proportion for men+, women+ and total in the accompanying
chart.
Historical Pyramid
Chart explanation:
An interactive visualization that shows the distribution of ages across a population divided down the
center between male and female members of the population.
The colours on the age pyramid identify the selected geographies; the grey bars depict the selected
geography.
The left side of the chart displays the male population, while the right side of the chart displays the female population
There are two accompanying charts that display the count and the proportion, as well as the median age and
the average age.
From years 2022 – 2043 the data is based on medium growth projections. The chart will change colour to
indicate when projection data is being viewed.
Chart functionality:
To select a specific geography, click the desired geography (Canada, province or territory) in the
“Geography” dropdown menu.
To select a specific year, click on the desired year in the “Year” dropdown menu.
Hover over a specific age to view the counts and proportion for male, female and total in the accompanying
chart.
At the bottom of the chart, click on the “play” or “pause” button to animate the visualization.
